The Simbi Washing Station processes coffee beans from 1850 smallholder farms in the Southern Rwandan region of Huye, using a unique wet fermentation method. The high altitude of the region creates a diverse micro-climate, perfect for growing high quality specialty coffee.
During peak harvest season, the station employs over 85 people, of which 80% are women who meticulously hand sort and quality control all beans, removing any defects.
Simbi was awarded two, top ten places in the prestigious Cup of Excellence Awards, the first of which was from their first harvest in 2013.
